3 Ways to get involved…
We have created three ways for ordinary people to come together and exercise our collective power and we are calling on everyone wherever you are in the world to take part—either by supporting our crowd funder; walking by joining the Listening to the Land pilgrimage along the spine of the UK or by Walking the Land wherever you are on the planet; and also by contributing your hopes and fears to the Voices of the Land People’s Charter.
Crowdfunding
We reached 31% of our target in the first day, which is incredible. Thank you so much everyone who has already supported us, it is heart warming to know this project is striking a chord with people, especially when so much hard work has been going into making it happen. We still have a long way to go though... All donations are not only appreciated, but help us send a clear message to those in power that our future is not to be gambled with. That we value this beautiful land and how it is being treated.

Listening to the Land Pilgrimage
On 4 September, 30 ordinary Britons will set off to do a truly extraordinary thing, and embark on an epic eight-week, 500-mile odyssey along ‘Spine of Albion’, before ultimately congregating at the COP26 conference site in Glasgow, culminating in a citywide art installation and performance for COP26 delegates. The route runs from X to Y, and members of the public are welcome to join any portion of the pilgrimage and attend unique and creative workshops, performances and talks led by arts, environmental and spiritual practitioners along the route.
Not being able to drop everything and walk 500 miles makes your voice no less urgent or necessary. Our two digital campaigns are designed to allow everyone, regardless of circumstances or geography, to demonstrate their love for nature and to call on corporate and po;itical leaders to act to defend it.
Walking the Land mass virtual nature walk event
Walking the Land is a mass virtual event for everyone, everywhere to log their own pilgrimage or nature walk online. All you need to do is go for a walk. You can walk anywhere, but we are particularly interested in seeing photos of your 'Kith'. You might have heard of the saying 'Kith and kin'? Well kin is your family and kith is the land you are from. In indigenous cultures people often introduce themselves through the land they have come from. The tree you climbed as a kid, the bushes that housed your dens, the county you grew up in... These are all your kith. In this day and age we are less connected to our kith, but we still have natural places in our lives that we go to when we need fortifying. Places that are special to us. We would love you to share photos and videos of you walking to and around these places by using #WalkingtheLand2021. Tell us who you are, what you do, where you are walking and why, what nature means to you and what you hope leaders will act on at the UN Climate Conference first and why.
Voices of the Land People’s Charter
We invite everyone, everywhere to contribute their thoughts and asks for the natural world in their backyard by helping to shape our shared People’s Charter; Voices of the Land. Building on and increasing the ambition and immediacy of existing action plans and charters Voices of the Land is intended to give all participants a platform to be heard in a format that policymakers can act on. This is an open-ended, community project, designed to be shared, and we welcome input from any organisation or individual who wants to build on or contribute to the project.
Share your hopes with us here.
‘I was taken aback by how many people applied to take part in our epic 8-week pilgrimage event, and realised we’d touched a nerve: at this decisive moment in human history people seem to be crying out for creative, energetic, reverent and non-party-political ways to call on world leaders to act.’ —Jolie C Booth, Co-founder, Listening to the Land, Kriya Arts.
‘We launched Walking the Land and Voices of the Land as a way for literally millions more people to feel empowered to ask leaders to walk the walk on the health of nature ahead of this year’s two crucial UN conferences, and to increase the numbers and diversity of those who might be able to contribute’ - Anna Lehmann, Co-founder, Listening to the Land, No Planet B Initiative
This is a chance for anyone, wherever you are, to come together and make history in an incredibly unique way... Our ask is simple, but powerful: go for a walk, tell us why you feel moved to defend nature, and add your voice to a global movement calling on world leaders. If you have ever felt troubled about the future of nature in your backyard or that of our planet and considered acting on that disquiet but instead chose to stay silent, please think again. By acting now, together, we can still alter the course of history. If any one of us waits any longer, it will certainly be too late.
